The Cost of Building a Web Site
The Domain Name:
Your domain name is your World Wide Web (www) address on the Internet. To have your own top level domain name - TLD - (www.JazzsResources.com), you must register it with one of the online registration sites such as Network Solutions or Domainpeople. The price can vary from $10 per year up to $70 per year, depending on with whom you choose to register. An inexpensive way to have your web site online is to use your provided space with your ISP (Internet Service Provider). They usually allot you 5-10 MB of space for your own site, but your web address will look like something like this: www.your-isp.net/~jazzsresources.
Hosting:
To have your web site online, you must have a web hosting service. They will provide the necessary space on their machines for all your web site information to be stored so that others will be able to access your site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Hosting costs can also vary, depending upon which host you use and what services you want for your site. Some hosts provide just the basic storage; others provide additional services such as shopping carts, security for receiving credit card information and search engine submission to name a few. Basic hosting can start at $10 per month and can be as much as $150 per month for hosting with additional services.

Domain Hosting: $100 per year
This is for basic hosting including the ability to set up many email addresses (i.e. sales@yourdomain.com, service@yourdomain.com, tom@yourdomain.com, dick@yourdomain.com, harry@yourdomain.com).
Unless your site is going to be graphic intensive and/or contain a large amount of music (mp3) files, this should be sufficient for most people and for those with small to medium-sized businesses.

Building The Web Site:
There are two options for building a web site. You can do it yourself or you can have someone design one for you.
If all you want is a site that gives basic information on who you are, what you are promoting/selling, where you are located, your hours of operation and your contact information, then you can probably build your own site. If you want a site that sells products or if you want a more detailed site, then I would advise a web designer to build your site.
If you will be designing your own site, you might need to buy some inexpensive software or use a program such as Netscape Composer to build your site. A professional web designer may charge anywhere from $100-300 per page or they may charge an hourly fee.
Just remember that your web site does NOT have to be large but it SHOULD look professional, as it is your presence on the web.

The balance is due before the site is published.
